Okay so I built my first ever PC, everything is fine and dandy until I start playing some games. Specifically Overwatch, but this has also happened during some HD video buffering. What happens is that the PC crashes, no blue screen, no sound glitches, fan goes wild, screen just goes black. Sometimes it reboots on its own, sometimes I have to force a restart. Now at first I wanted to see if it had something to do with CPU/GPU temps, but those passed stress tests with flying colors. I kept an eye on temps while in Overwatch as well and nothing funky was going on there.

What I believe is the issue was found in the event viewer app, related to my SSD (my only drive at the moment), Crucial CT275MX300. I get this error before crash:
Code
"A TCG Command has returned an error. Desc: AuthenticateSession Param1: 0x1 Param2: 0x60000001C Param3: 0x900000006 Param4: 0x0 Status: 0x12".
By googling that I found it to be related to my SSD. Now I can't say I understood half of what the people on the internet said about this issue but I tried many of the suggestions listed for example here: http://forums.crucial.com/t5/Crucial-SSDs/M500-Issues-with-locking-up-A-TCG-Command-has-returned-an-error/td-p/149506 , including firmware update for SSD, disabling Microsoft encryption service, disabling automatic page file size, disabling power-saving options etc.

Now for the weird part, I'm still not sure if I am running AHCI or IDE because I tried turning it manually on as described here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/ahci-for-ssd/18ee0b43-47a9-4344-b0c8-1e8546be2c82 but I don't have the folder described in part 12 (instead there was an Enum folder). As for BIOS, AHCI was already turned on so I didn't have to change it. After doing the procedures described above, I didn't notice any difference.
My device manager for the SATA controllers looks like this:

Should it say something else IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers if AHCI was on? The drivers on the controller are the most recent Windows 10 drivers AMD has, no idea why they haven't updated them since. Graphics and CPU drivers are up to date, BIOS I haven't touched other than checking that AHCI is enabled. I have bad memories about BIOS updates.

Components:
AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Six-Core Processor
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
Crucial CT275MX300 SSD
Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming 3
16GB G.Skill RipJaws V DDR4-3200 DIMM CL16 Dual Kit
550 Watt Corsair RMx Series RM550x Modular 80+ Gold PSU
Asus PCE-N15 2T2R PCIe 300MBit wifi adapter

E: Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit

Now I know this is a TL;DR post but I've really tried looking into this a lot myself and I can't think of anything I could do. This is also a very specific problem so it's getting kinda difficult to find information about it on the internet. Maybe I'm on the wrong track, but that error message in event viewer is the only thing that makes sense to me. I wish I had FG to offer to anyone who could help me with this but right now it's just a big thank you for ANY help with this issue.

Yep IDE is older, I'm just not sure if I know for sure AHCI is on. Haven't tried reinstalling Overwatch yet, but lately this problem surfaced at least once doing something else, like watching something. I tried googling this problem specific to Overwatch the first thing, but there wasn't any really good solutions as it's kind of a general issue with many different causes. :(

If achi is on in the bios its enabled.
However if it wasn't on during the installation in the bios you need to do a registry fix.
I'd bet this is more driver or psu related then actually about achi mode.

Ok thanks. How would I know if it was on or not during installation, and what kind of registry fix are we talking about here? I edited some registry things to enable it as shown in the microsoft link, but was missing that one StartOverdrive folder (not sure if necessary). If it is driver-related, then what drivers do you think might be wrong/missing?

Now it crashed in browser doing nothing heavy, subsequent crashes after rebooting very shortly. Usually it gets less problematic when I keep it turned off for some time, what would this be indicative of?

If driver related could be any driver update all to latest non beta after removing old ones fully first.
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/how-to-enable-ahci-for-ssd-in-windows-10/18ee0b43-47a9-4344-b0c8-1e8546be2c82?page=2
Or simply reinstall windows and see if it helps.

Can also try other sata ports on your mobo as you may have 2 controllers and ones conflicting.

If it was on during the installation it will still be on, unless you manually changed it.

When you first build a comp...the motherboard comes with a driver DVD. Since you're on a Ryzen CPU, then the motherboard driver DVD will already have the latest drivers, because the Ryzen motherboards are all too new, to have "newer drivers" yet.

NEVER update drivers through Device Manager...always do them manually if they even need updating.

usually yes but its known to cause crashes, freezes and other issues.
same applies from some devices just trying to use achi mode if bad drivers/firmware but work normally in IDE mode.
