you're wrong on that last point, i have a z97 board and i7 4790k so i only have 16 lanes as dictated by the 4790k
buying new parts is what i like to do - i've had the 4790k + mobo for two years now, want to sell + upgrade
supporting amd over intel is pretty important atm. intel is a shitty company that can't be trusted that just had the best performance for the money at the time, as there was only the 9590 from amd which wasn't going to happen
ddr4 supports higher clocks, lower power consumption (lower voltages, which means overvolting + overclocking) - not really a huge plus but ddr3 old asf. higher data rates which doesn't really effect gaming or day to day
overall ddr4 clocks higher which helps ryzen's data transfer over its infinity fabric substrate or whatever the fuk, so overclocking that ends up in higher overall performance as well.
ryzen ipc already matches broadwell/skylake (and as a result, kabylake because it's the same thing as skylake) clock to clock. so if i can sit at 4 or 4.1ghz on ryzen while overclocking memory i'm bound to see performance increases overall.
not to mention, ryzen cpu's are soldered, not pasted with garbage and then glued on with that awful black tar shit
