So I have hard wood floors in my room and all over the apartment. My new subwoofer, after changing some settings, plays very nicely and loud. But it can annoy other people in the apartment.

So i was looking up ways to help the sound from subwoofer and speakers from leaving my room.
It seems like to sound proof the room, it is expensive and crazy stuff needs to be done to the walls and such.

But for the subwoofer, ive read that just a simple square vibration isolation pad can help improve the sound quality of the subwoofer and help prevent the bass from escaping my room as much?

The subwoofer in a front facing woofer and there are 4 little feet that hold the subwoofer up from the floor, so this sort of helps to remove it from the floor, but what pad would you guys suggest? Or is this even worth it? Something like sorbothane?

I also read this response that talks about mass loading the subwoofer?

And any other cheap ways to help lower the amount of noise from speaker or subwoofer from leaving my room?

Thanks

SubDude only helps with cabinet vibration moving to structures but it wont help with sound waves going trough. In some cases it might help but turning your sub little down is best option. I personally have 2 subs in apartment and haven't got any issues with neighbours. I have build my own SubDudes how ever to avoid cabinet vibration.

what do you mean by cabinet vibration? like the actually box the subwoofer is in?

how would you build your own pads?

Yes, the box subwoofer is in can vibrates slightly when the cone is moving if you play loud, usually this is minimized with design and weight but there is always some vibration and when you have the sub on floor it will go to structures. How ever you say that only your roommmates are getting disturbed so I guess the cabinet vibration is not an issue then but the actual sound waves.

I bought some auralex platfoam for the suspension part, but you could use some stiff foam that support the weight of sub, glued it on 12mm plywood and covered the plywood with acoustic mat.

thanks for the reply, but i am quite lost on what you are describing? are you talking only about adding a few layers of material to make a platform out of and place the subwoofer box on top of this platform?

like acoustic mat is the bottom layer, then plywood layer, then stiff foam on top layer. and finally the subwoofer on top of these?

but then again, from what you said, these things wont help reduce the amount of sound waves being sent through the apartment? i guess i didnt really think much could be done to help with this, but still just like to learn about my options and what they can do
