I bought a barebone maybe 3-4 years ago, absolutely amazing pc, originally had 512 ssd, however something happened causing me to have to replace it, I took it to a shop maybe a 9-10 months ago and they put what I believe was a refurbished mediocre off brand ssd, 256. I used my pc for d2 and the other night I downloaded magic the gathering, then my pc just turned off and wouldn't load up anymore, kept coming to "americantrend" screening saying it couldn't find my hard drive, I tried booting it up but it wouldn't boot. Then another screen came up saying my drive was "failing" needless to say I believe my ssd has went out, can someone confirm this for me please or give me some insight on what you think.

Your assumptions sound pretty accurate.

I'd grab a muskin eco 3 as a replacement from newegg or go samsung evo but expect to pay a huge premium for the name.
I have both and there virtually identical in speeds. muskin is 2/3's the cost though.

I noticed the Samsung Evo being sold at my local bestbuy it's 1tb, like 300 or 400 dollars. The money isn't an issue for the part, just paying someone 100 or even more to confirm what I think it is.

Without it in my hands its hard to say exactly but from what you've stated it sounds accurate.
You can try another sata port and sata cable to rule that out. If its not showing up in the bios after that then for sure its dead.
Otherwise you'd need to run something to check the health once an OS is reinstalled to it if need be.

Yeah my buddy is a computer programmer, he lives 3 hours from though. He said it sounds like a ssd but he doesn't wanna mislead me. He's a for sure type person he wants to see it in front of him to give a definite answer.

If you do decide you need a new SSD I would get this from Amazon. It's $30 cheaper than at Best Buy...

The Samsung 1TB is $319 at Amazon...just so you know.

Here's the site we use to get the best prices... http://pcpartpicker.com/

As Art mentioned above the Mushkin ECO3 is also a decent SSD. Not quite on par with Samsung, but definitely cheaper.

It is a good one...and it's an American company, that has very good ppl working there. They are a small company and still treat the customer...right.

I usually find the item on Pcpartpicker and then Goolge the manufacturer and the model number, like this: Mushkin MKNSSDE3480GB

Sometimes Pcpartpicker is a little behind the actual availability.
