I really, REALLY want to wait for Ryzen. However I have around 350 dollars that I got for my bday in total and cannot stand waiting!

I bought the RX 480 that was on seal on newegg for 174 (154 or so after rebate).

I only have a FX 6300 and I heard this CPU will bottleneck the titties out of the 480. I had this CPU (non OC'd) for around 4 years now? Still chugging a long just fine.

Option 1:

I was thinking of buying a new motherboard for a Intel Core i5 6600K. however, the i5 is around 240, and the cheapest mobo for 1151 is around 50, then I need to re-buy the evo v12 cooler (34). So that's a total of 324$

Option 2:

Can get a used i5 2500k for around 140 from Amazon, or ebay, etc for < 100$. And then a cheap LGA 1155 mobo for 75-85. Add the 34$ cooler and its: 249$ (assuming I pay 140, it would be 200$ if I can find a cheaper i5 2500k)

So I can go the modern i5 route, or maybe the hundred dollar cheaper i5 2500k version and then save that 100 dollars for a Ryzen CPU+Mobo that will be out in a couple months maybe? I'm thinking I would need more than 100$ though, probably around 200 for a good Ryzen+Mobo.

Or hell, maybe my i5 2500k is doing so good when I OC it that I don't even need to upgrade? Am I being too frugal about this? I spent the last 2 days fiddling around on the internet not sure what to do! Thanks in advance

Pro-tip: You buy cheap shit you get cheap shit.

Expect poor results.

Most tech sites are expecting the Ryzen CPU to be ~ $500.
No one knows for sure yet.

Wait. RyZen is expected to be ~$500 based on what? Comparisons to the i7-6900k in their previews? That's disappointing. I was hoping for a competitor to the 6600k/7600k/6700k/7700k at lower prices.

Holy crap, didn't know Ryzen was estimated to be that much. Ghot means the 500$ to be comparative to the 8c/16t one maybe? I've read a cheap Ryzen 4c/8t could be less than 200.

That's from Paul's Hardware Youtube video though, which is entirely speculative..

Thanks @Incend, maybe I'll just wait. Do you think the fx 6300 will hold up fine with the rx 480 though, or will it be an extreme bottleneck?

The FX 6300 will bottle neck the RX 480

Yeah, honestly I found a i5 2500k on ebay with a mobo for around 90$, figured If I get that and if it works it would still be miles ahead of my fx 6300 in terms of gaming right? This is also ofcourse if I don't get fucked over lol. I could use that then and wait for ryzen?

1080p, POE / Black Desert

I heard BD is very cpu intensive but my fx 6300 only gets 50-60% usage outside of towns. In towns, it's max, and I get 2-5fps

I would power through with the GPU and Fx-6300 and see what AMD releases. Ryzen is supposed to be good but I don't think anyone should get there hopes up.

That being said worst case scenario save up for an i5?
