I'm trying to build a energy efficient desktop and was eyeing the i5 6400t skylake chip which is a quad core that runs at 2.2ghz.
Does anyone have any experience with this chip or any other t chips? Would this be good enough to play the latest games and how does it compare
to something like the i3 6100?

i have enough to get a 6400 just wondering if the performance hit would be worth it for the power savings since i pay 35cents per kwh for electricity

Most likely not, the hit is very large in gaming.

I'm going to refer this question to others: Can you change the voltage settings of a non-K processor on a non-Z platform?

What GPU will you be running?

I don't think the multiplier or the BLCK can be changed on skylake with non K cpus. I'll google it

Edit, only the BLCK can be changed.

Not talking about overclocking, I'm talking about the voltage.

I was able to drop a few watts off from my stock i5 3570K by undervolting, total sum of almost 10watts according to HWM. Even if the readings are not accurate, I believe it is enough evidence to show the power consumption dropped.
I honestly cannot be arsed to google about non-Z boards and non-K processors, those are a fucking mess.

Skylake processors are a lot better optimized than my Ivy Bridge counterpart, but it's always worth the shot if OP can save even some money.

What are you going on about?.... 10w equates to maybe pennies monthly savings on the power bill

You probably wouldn't even notice a difference if you just ran a 6600/6700.
