Okay so I guess this is what I've settled on.

Iso last round of input & suggestions.

Are all of these parts compatible with one another?

Do I need to buy anything else to physically build this and have it running? (aside from OS, will be getting Windows 10 probably)

not a huge fan of the heatsink, and the psu is fine for your build now but won't provide a ton of headroom for expanding/upgrading -- but if you have no intention of doing that, you're good.

Any recommendations on a different cooler?

I don't want liquid cooling because I don't know enough about it tbh.

Also, I don't think I'd upgrade for a few years.

cryorig h7 over the c7, c7 is a weird low profile cooler, i wouldn't suggest.
gigabyte ga-z170x over the msi m5 (shitty bug on the msi board causes memory leak / crashing computer)
get 3000mhz ddr4 ram not 2400. best bang:buck
gigabyte g1 1070 > evga 1070 ftw

otherwise good

edit: you could probably save a few bucks and go with this power supply instead

seasonics power supplies are top notch. only difference is this one doesn't have modular cables (can't remove ones you aren't using)
but you have the giant shroud at the bottom of your case to hide that, and a lot of space behind the board for routing cables

For the graphics cards, what are the main differences?

previous gen (maxwell) gigabyte cards clocked higher than evga cards, both under gpuboost & manual overclocks

evga customer support is way better though

no giant differences, i just like gigabyte cards. they tend to be cooler/quieter, too
