Okay here is what has happened thus far.
1. Started the new build, got bios, set it to USB first.
2.restarted and began windows install.
3.Came back 30 mins later, to no progress so i restarted.
4. periodic, no signal mixed with error '9c' and inabillity to get to bios.
5. I reset the cmos (battery pull)
6. Only no signal now, never even displaying the error code.
7. removed/ moved ram one by one, no change
8.unplugged ssd, no change
9. unplugged video card (no onboard, and hard a high pitched periodic beep)
Now no idea what to do, This is roughly the build http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/MF4NVn except an old PSU (antec 500w) and SSD.

Also ensure, if you just did a battery pull to reset the CMOS, to make sure the system wasn't plugged into the wall.

it was not :(

Is my mobo fucked?

actually is my vid card fucked since the mobo beep was likely looking for a vid card?

Equally :(

a friend suggested it could still be the age of my PSU

Your motherboard may not have the BIOS required for the FX 6300....
Ram should be is slots 1 and 3 counting away from the CPU, if CPU cooler is in the way, then slots 2 and 4 counting away from the CPU.
Did you plug in the 8 pin power lead from the PSU to the upper left corner of the motherboard?

A pic of the inside of your comp would help...so we can see if maybe you have a power supply cable wrong, or not used etc. We can also see your other wiring as well.

I'm also suspicious of.. an old PSU (antec 500w)

/e Right from PCPartpicker: "Some AMD 970 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vishera CPUs."

oh, i tried slots 1/2 and then 3/4 but that doesnt really explain wh i went from having a bios to not, nor does the mobo not having the bios for the fx6300.

Ill move the ram and give it another shot.
failing that ill take a pciture for you guys.

the only psu connectors problems i had was that mobo was 24 and 8 psu was 20+4 and 4+4 but i was told not to worry about that.

e/ to your edit, why woul i have got the bios on first boot but not be able to get it back? and how can i update the bios now? or am i screwed lol

ee/ shouldnt it atleast display and get to an error code like it had been before
eee/ Ram in 1/3 now problem persists

Won't know the answers to those questions till I see a pic of insides of comp. Just moving the RAM to the proper slots may help....reset the BIOS after you move the RAM. THEN, if you can get into the BIOS...make sure you set the RAM frequency, timings and voltage to manufacturer's specs.

The 20+4 and the 4+4 are OK.

My gut feeling is that the problem is the power supply. Do you have a link to your make and model of PSU? Some of the old Antec PSU's were junk.

there some pics not sure what exactly you want to see so let me know and i can take a few more.

heres the psu
http://store.antec.com/basiqseries/bp500u.html

though mine has more connectors than that lists

Maybe i am using the wrong piece on the 1x4 and the 1x pcie becasue mine has 4x2 and 6x2 or at least i thought.

would a PSU problem explain getting the bios once and never again though?

e/ so you think i should do the cmos reset again now that i have moved the ram, is battery pull an OK way to do this? or was i wrong to do that the first time

PSU problems could do almost anything...and that is NOT one of the good Antec PSU's.
