I recently got a computer with an R9 280x and when I install the CCC drivers from amd's website (Omega 14.12) it gives me an error saying that the display driver could not be installed. I was able to get the beta 14.7.something drivers I found on the internet and it was running but State of Decay was having meshes shooting lines all over the place. I decided to try updating again and I am having this issue still. I tried both the update through CCC telling me to update and also by uninstalling my AMD drivers and running DDU in safe mode and reinstalling the drivers. Nothing is working and it is honestly beyond me why this is happening. I used to own an HD 6950 and updating the drivers for that and installing them was a walk in the park, never once had an issue with them. But I can barely get the R9 280x drivers to install unless I run some old beta drivers. Can someone help me out?

When I got this computer I put it together and started installing windows updates and installed the motherboard updates. Windows has no updates last I checked (two days ago, checking right now as well) and I just can't figure out why the drivers wont install unless I run some old beta drivers. Any help would be much appreciated.

I am on windows 7 by the way.

They aren't called beta drivers for no reason bro.

Install the last stable drivers.

Thats the thing. I tried the latest stable drivers and they wouldnt install. The only drivers that install are the old August 12th 2014 14.7 RC3. I don't know why they are the only ones I can install but they are the only ones that work.

No, it was sent to me in the mail from a friend. I tried using the stuff off both ASUS' website (manufacturer of my GPU) and off AMD's website. I can only get 14.7 RC3 to install, nothing else will work, not even the drivers that are from the ASUS website specifically for my GPU.

I've built like 6 or 7 PC's and been running on a PC I built for the last 4 or 5 years and never once came across anything like this....

I would try again with DDU and with Windows Updates set to MANUAL. Windows Updates are released on the 2nd Tuesday of each month...avoid the optional updates.
The Optional Updates usually have a vid driver, but it's wrapped in a Microsoft installer, which conflicts with the AMD installer.

Also it would help to know what the rest of the message says when it tells you: Display Driver cannot be installed. This is assuming there IS more to the message.

If not, then I would look to some off the wall or non-legit games or emulators that you may have installed for the cause of this issue.

I've tried DDU numerous times, with different versions of the drivers just to see if installing an older one and then updating would work (why I tried the beta 14.7 RC3 drivers). Only that specific one works sadly. I think it might be that I installed windows updates first on accident(wanted to check only, then update later, but accidentally did a check and start apparently) and it's causing an issue. Luckily I have two hard drives and have only had this computer running for a week or so and wont be losing anything by reinstalling windows and trying from the beginning again.

The error message is just that CCC installed but the display driver didnt (when I check the log it will only tell me what installed and didn't). If it doesn't do that, it will just BSOD mid install even after removing all drivers with DDU.

I can play games on it for now some play fine some don't, but it will last until I have a day off (Wed) to spend the time to backup my steam games folder and other things I need and reinstall windows. I just hope that it will work if I install the updates after. I don't remember that being a problem with the last times I built a computer so it must have been from a recent-ish update.

Thanks for the help by the way.

First make sure to disconnect any other SSD's or HDD's, except the one you're installing Windows on, and that it is formatted as Primary, NTFS and Default Cluster Size

Install stuff in this order:

Unhook Internet
Install Windows
Install motherboard drivers
Install vid card drivers
Install sound drivers
Install Security programs
After everything is installed, open Services, and make sure Windows Update is set to Manual.

Rehook Internet
Install Windows updates. ONLY the Important and Critical ones. Read though all those as well, and UN-check any that have to do with vid card, sound or motherboard drivers.
Install utilities like CCleaner, 7Zip, IMGBurn
Install w/e other games or programs you want.

You're much better off downloading the newest versions of the drivers from their respective Manufacturers webpages as the ones that come with your product are usually old in comparison
