I'm still stuck with Frontier DSL, I can't get Spectrum or any form of Cable/Fiber Optic in my area; my only options are Frontier DSL, ViaSat, and Earthlink.

But as of January, Verizon 5G Wireless is an option for me. But is it really a significant upgrade from Frontier DSL, or even an upgrade at all? Or is it really bad too?

Are you running single link DSL or dual link?
You can get dual link DSL which runs 80 to 100 megabits per second.
It's slower than 5G theoretical peak but still fast
Plus wireless internet is notoriously unreliable

I used it as my main isp for over a year, only issue I had was an ethernet port go bad on the router, otherwise latency was low and speeds ranged from 80 mpbs to 400. Uploads were much lower than any csble/fiber options. Hope this helps.

The only thing I was told about the speed is that, if I ran a speedtest on my phones data (an Iphone X), the 5G Plus should be similar to that.

I have four people in this household, so at the very least I need to be able to do online gaming lag free while someone else is streaming movies at the same time.

if you are getting at least 2 bars of 5g uw you should be fine with 1 streaming without lag, imo.

Hell no. Latency will be trash

Might get faster dl speeds at some times when it's not congested

But I'll take good latency over spotty cellular Internet. Especially if you plan on gaming. If you're out in the sticks and just casually browse the internet, probably will be fine though

5g is better lat then most dsl, even was better than Comcast cable at my old house. There are more variables in play than simply saying dsl is the better option. Forgot about starlink, it's pretty expensive and unless you live in an open field I wouldn't bother. If you were interested though they let you do a 30 day return, that's what I ended up doing.

5g is trash vs dsl for latency based games. starlink is even worse

anyone who buys into starlink's satellite bufoonery needs to get NK'd in the blood moor

Starlink is not worse but i guess for latency based then sure. If you are in a rural area without much options starlink gets the job done. It works great for streaming, downloads and overall use. It has its flaws but its not trash. I didnt buy into it, i bought it because i had ONLY one option and it was over priced and absolutely bad. It's heavily snowing here and I get over 100 down on a 5g connection.
