So I have the choice of the following,

ibanez rg 350dx (white) or a PRS se torero (purple burst or w/e)

Both second hand, but in great shape.

I talked the guy down on the ibanez to $300 CAD, and the guy who owns the PRS to $450 CAD

What would you guys do?

The ibanez is so ugly that definite no to that. I dont know about those particular models, but i would assume that they are quite different in terms of stuff like neck shape etc. Generally its impossible to say which one is better if they are both decent guitars, it just depends on the style of play, which type of neck do you prefer(part of style of play), aesthetics, your own tonal preferences, if one is much heavier than the other and you want a light weight guitar etc etc.

I would suggest you think about what you want and google as much info about the guitars as you can and then think if 150 dollars more for the pretty one is worth it if they come out as near equals in other aspects.

PRS hands down from those 2.. But neither are necessarily beginner guitars.. Most 'metal' guitars aren't beginner guitars, the Ibanez has a floyd rose bridge, which is a hell of a thing to learn how to string, it also has 6 pickups which is great but again not really for beginners.. The PRS torero has a much more universal sound, and is just a much better quality and simpler guitar.

But it comes down to what you like.. go play them both and see which you like more.

I would take that PRS over that Ibanez any day. Ibanez is pretty bad. PRS has surprisingly decent budget guitars.
