Two months ago I bought a Washburn acoustic guitar to learn in my free time. Since then I've spent most of my time learning a few scales and chords until my hands felt comfortable. I'm ready to take the next step in learning how to play but don't know where to start now. Are their any good books to buy or recommended youtube videos to watch and is it worth buying lessons. I'm also thinking about investing in the new Rocksmith game. A friend of mine has the first one and also recommended I should get it.

You should start by learning basic chords. Remember that most songs require only 4-5 of them to be played.

G D Em C
Am F C G (Save tonight by Eagle Eye Cherry for example)

I started playing for less than one year ago, if you play ~15-30 min a day it wont take long until you can blast out any song.
I wouldnt go with buying a videogame for learning to play guitar. Look up videos on youtube and ultimate-guitar.com there are lots of FREE guides there.

check out the music theory playlist uploaded by a youtube channel named lypur. I teach music for a living and this guys videos really helped me to make sure I learn the things I had missed growing up. He really covers all the important bases in this playlist. He's a pianist but this whole playlist is strictly music theory.

Yeah that's pretty much what I've been doing since I bought it, however I didn't know that they had guides on ultimate-guitar I've just been printing out music sheets and practicing them. Thanks man

just uploaded to youtube tonight my online circle of fifths lesson, part of a long series I'm making. Just finished video 20 of the series. It's for new guitarists but is going to get more and more advanced as the series progresses.

I'd send you a link. But I think I'm going to make a new thread for it. Please check it out and help my ratings out. Much thanks in advance if you do, I don't log in here all that often.
