bluegrass festivals or any festivals where there is picking. i dont ever really go see much of the performers, just wander the campgrounds and find the jam.
"winfield" or walnut valley festival - a big one, people go from anywhere from 3 days to 1 month. more picking than anything ive been to. ive been almost every year since birth!
mt airy old time fiddle convention - was 5 bucks and epic campground musicians of several genres.
harvest fest. blah blah blah yonder mt stringband.
wakarusa back when it was in lawrence ks, was fun, not much picking.
i go to rock festivals occasionally. i like watching live music but rather play it or go somewhere where there is both observing and playing.
edit: festyfest - pretty fun, some picking, knew a lot of people there from other festivals. my band has played there a few times, they have never paid us so sneak in if you go.
