Ah I see. The large beaver isn't a fuzz though, it's a muff. From gilmourish.com;
"Big Muffs are often referred to as fuzz and although that describes the tone, a fuzz and Big Muff are technically two different pedals. While fuzz pedals are based on a very basic two-transistor circuit producing a almost crude and aggressive tone, the Big Muff has a more complex cuircuit and a much more balanced tone with rich harmonics and sustain. It is perhaps more accurate to place the Big Muff in a category between fuzz and the more modern distortion."
The BYOC large beaver is supposed to be a recreation (one of many today, but some say this is the best one) of the 70's era Big Muff that Electro Harmonix made. And a 70's big muff can go for as much as 1k dollars on *** IF you're lucky enough to find one for sale. So yeah, me paying $200 for the BYOC (shipping included) was well worth it (:
Idk what music you play/listen to, but if you've ever heard the solo in Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd, that's the big muff tone you hear right there.
And the Maxon OD808 isn't exactly a rival to the Ibanez TS-9, but to the Ibanez TS808. The TS808/OD808 and TS-9 are fairly similar though. I think the 808 is "warmer" than the TS9, but I'm not entirely sure. I'm sure there are a lot of comparisons on the net to be found.
