Hey, I am a little bit of newbie in music making (ehm.. more like big newbie)

I'm just thinking... what is made first? is it the melody in a song or is it the lyrics?

Lets take... e.g. some avicii song or similair

It could go either way really, there's no set formula, some people need to write lyrics before they make melodies or have a melody before they write lyrics

usually lyrics first from what ive seen from bands i like (queen, elton john, ect...)

melody first here. normally i find something out on the guitar and we make something out of it as a band and add lyrics as the last part

I know in hip hop(real hip hop) it is almost always melody first.

otherwise the melody needs to be altered afterward

i see people writing lyrics first usually but when it comes to recording, a lot of bands record instrumentals first then the vocals

its better to let the emotion pour into the music first
maybe its just my personal preference, trying to force chords and rhythms over syllables almost feels dishonest

I'd say lyrics so you can think out of a melody that beautifys it as well as a rythm and the right chords (you're not going to use a happy melody/chords with sad lyrics, unless meant on purpose for laughs )
