Alright so my favorite band is Mumford & Sons. I'm completely obsessed with them.

The band guitarist/singer, Marcus Mumford, primarily plays a Martin D28 acoustic. According to a bunch of reviews, the Martin D1-GT (the acoustic I'm getting), sound wise is damn close to the Martin D28, at half the price.

Let me know what you guys think.

Most martins as long as they are the USA made ones are great investments, sound great, retain value relatively well, and actually as long as they are cared for properly will actually mature and sound better with age. So all in all it's a great choice, you should have zero need of anything better, most acoustics above $1,000 you are paying for a conglomeration of aesthetics, exotic or higher end materials, and name. So at that price point it's probably one of the better acoustic you could choose if you are set on buying new, I would suggest looking for a used acoustic as well, as you can generally save hundreds of dollars buying used and get the same performance.

try the taylor acoustics in the price range and compare to see which one you prefer.

I'm not too big on Taylor guitars all that much. I choose Martin because I'll be playing very hard strumming songs. I do use a Taylor for fingerpicking and stuff though.
