No DAW will really clean up the audio, it's not like the good audio is there but hidden, it just wasn't captured in the first place and the mic was probably clipping a good portion of the time. Now if it's just quiet but clean than you could possible boost the audio enough but it will boost background noise as well. (I record music for a living, so I am pretty familiar with this).
