I'm going to be recording a full cover of this song soon, need some advice on the current tone though!

Which tone do you like more and why? What is there to improve on tone wise? I know there are some mistakes in the recordings, they were all done in one take and still getting used to changing channels with pedal smoothly.

I am much fonder of the warmth of the older recording, the new one is so high gain and makes me feel like i'm listening on my toes lol.

Did you by any chance change from the bridge pickup to neck pickup for the 2nd recording? Methinks you should use the bridge pickup, gives that warmth then switch back to the other pickup for the softly softly rhythm

No, it's neck pickup all the way in both (except a few small parts). I made a change of adding more bass in the second, I think it made the tone too heavy.
