If you can swing the little bit of extra money, I would highly recommend looking into something like a Squire starter pack. Don't get the "Fender Starcaster" though.
It's a little bit more money, but honestly, a good Squire is a great starter guitar. I've been playing guitar for almost 10 years, and I've toured many places in the country. In doing that, I have some really nice guitars, but I still play my Squire after 10 years. It's made with solid parts, good wood on the neck and body. They just play really really well for the price. I would pay a little more for something that will last, and will sound good. Those guitars there are made out of really cheap wood and won't last all that long. If you can spend the extra money, that's my suggestion.

As far as headphones. Some packs actually include those with it. But any headphones will work, as long as you get an adapter. Which you can get those at Radioshack for a couple of dollars, usually.

Feel free to pm me with any music gear questions, and I will be more than happy to help. :)

This This This.

Squire starter packs get a 10/10 from me for beginners, the only thing that I think is necessary is immediately get the strings replaced with Ernie Ball 9guages, will be much less stressful on the fingers and will also help with bending.

10 guage is perfectly acceptable here too

So.. for starter i say that..

Squier stratocaster/telecaster affinity.. Are the best squier in the world and they got low cost..

Gibson epiphone.. or something like..

Ampli: just an economic amplificator of 30W or something like that

But i think you've to buy a guitar of 50-100$ max.. cause in the first years of guitar training (1-3 years) the guitar is not important.. He need just study and pratice..
Sorry for bad english.. Came on, it's a kid.. maybe he's going to broke that guitar.. so don't spend money now, spend after some years..

Font: I study guitar at the three years course of jazz... And i play from 15 years

giving a shitty instrument is the best way to discourage a kid. If you can spend extra, do it(even if he's 6.yo). A squier can last a lot of years.

Er......... No, this is wrong apart from the last part. What GXY is saying is that a Squier, inexpensive guitar, can be a guitar for years - value for low quality.

it doens't matter abour squier.. cuz i'm sayng in general point of vision... Squier is the better choice.. But for the first part of the phrase (giving a shitty instrument is the best way to discourage a kid.) it's not true...
