I've reached this plateau where I don't know how to continue getting better. I can strum well and know all the chords. I can do many chord variations for nice sounds as well - I've lead worship many times in front of my church (600 people) and am confident in my abilities. However, I can't pick very well in between chords. I'd assume musicians just use scales for this? Anyone have any advice or links for me?

acoustic or electric?

it sounds like you're playing acoustic if you're leading for a church?
fingerpicking > the generic camp-fire chord strumming

look up a fingerpicking song on ultimate-guitar and learn it
it'll be overwhelming at first but you'll discover that as long as your fret-hand is in the shape of basic chords, you can fingerpick the separate strings and it'll sound good

Limp Bizkits version of Behind Blue Eyes is a really nice fingerpicked version (no, I do not like Limp Bizkit, I just know they did one song right)
