What is the size of standard strings on a guitar.
Let's say you go to your local shop, what is most likely the size you'll find on guitars.

Light-Medium

I'm kind of hesitating in between
9-42
and
10-46

thx

What guitar do you have, how long have you been playing, and what kinda songs do you play?

This all has relevance and I have the suggestions for certain answers.

Most guitars are strung with 9-42's. Light strings = More sustain, easier play, easy to bend.
Heavy strings = bigger tone, more durability and stay in tune.

If you're kinbetween, D'addario has 9.5-44! You could also use 9-46's.

i thought heavy strings had more sustain? i thought that was part of the reason people used heavier strings... i guess not :/

i have small question about this though as well

i use medium strings on my acoustic its .013 - .xxx and of late, it seems like they have WAY less sustain they used to, espeically on the low E string... and i thought it was just me at first but now im certain it doesnt ring as long as it used to, i also switched to some kind of dirt smelling pick, cellulose pick or something idk and i have another set of strings, but i dont like the way new strings sound, always sound sort of twangy and metallic..

Using floyd rose esp lt.
Type of play: Muse

I went 10-46 DR neon strings, wanted to test them out. (Even if it's 10-46, Dr Strings are bit smaller)

thx

Yeah 10s or 9s ftw there.

Blunder - It's less sustain and more tuning. The 9s would NEVER be able to play drop A# tunings - just wouldn't work, but some heavier guages like the Zakk Wylde 60s would be able to do it - but there are heavier ones than that anyhow

Try Martin SP guitar strings. They use a higher grade of stainless steel and electroplate bronze to the plain steel stings and cores. Wram sounding, less twang.
