ive been working for 2 years in developping my pinky to play and string skip like paulk gilbert. this guy never uses his pinky. basically told his pinky to fuck off... anyone else to this? should i just abandon the pinky and be a faggot like this dude?

Pinky is very important for playing - it frees your hand up, gives you less awkward stretching and adds to your speed.

Bollocks to Paul Gilbert - he is badass at shred n all, but a pinky is never a bad thing, only a bad thing to be without.

Pinky is godly if you can get it like Paul's, but I think you'll just have to accept that he's a freak. Pretty sure his is overdeveloped, it looks longer than my index finger.

i try to use my pinky if i can but it just doesn't have the strength of my other fingers so bending and stuff is impossible (at least at the moment). You shouldn't forget about using it, but sometimes you'll have to just make do without it.

Play the way that YOU play and develop your own style.

In my opinion it's better to use your pinky and make it stronger and develop it as well as use of the ring finger where your pinky normally would be.

Just try all styles and possibiliies and then gather a library of all of them and make your own style out of what you've learned.
You notice that every professional musician has their own style, Well that's because they are smart and they knew they would never get anywhere copying someone else or playing covers.
