I have been playing guitar for a good amount of time and sing constantly(in car, room, at work, etc)

I have never gotten the hang playing guitar and singing though. My voice/rythm often try to follow eachother causing mayhem.

Any tips on how to slowly learn to do both?

practice. start with songs with lyrics that tend close to the rhythm - most songs do anyway. if you want to break it down even further, start with songs where the chord progressions are simple/repetitive (lots of pop songs with only 4 chords are great for this), and then work your way up to songs that have more complex patterns.

as with all things, it just gets easier the more you do it - and when it does, you can progress to something harder and will find it more doable than it did the last time you tried.
