the idea behind this is to get a huge fanbase behind a band that is really dumb, just to see what happens.

There is a band called Porcupine Tree and they did something quite similar. They made up a non-existent band and made a myspace for it and everything.
Only thing was people started liking and listening, and now they have like 7 albums or something ridiculous haha.

Cool idea but it has been done. It works if that is what you were looking for lol.
