ok, say im playing a c major7 chord, C-E-G-B

what if i played around with the notes, something like this
C-G-E-B

would this still be considered the same chord but with a different taste/feel?
actually when contructing chords, are there any rules to follow or can i mix and match ( so to speak )
any notes like the example above.

9Yea... still a C7th. But E+G+B= E-. So pending on the key or tone center, this could also be E-add 6 (13.) But it sounds like you're just using a different voicing of C7.

how cool i actually understand waht your saying :P

i thinkt he key tone center thing is important though, as like certain slash chords or inverted ones are more acceptable/conventional than others. I just mean that if u move stuff around enough and play them at weird places it wont sound like C7, so going from like F to that chord wont sound like it normally does especially if you repeat the more dissonant stuff like the 3rd and with distortion n stuff
