epiphone les paul special II Cheap and great to learn on if you want to learn on an electric and most people do with all the different effects it seems to hold peoples interest better than an acoustic

But i would suggest going to your local Guitar center/ music shop and just look around and ask questions

I would agree with this if he already knew how to play, or if he already had experience - but this guy may stop playing after 3 months (no offense OP, just happens)

IMO - This is right

They are SHIT once you have learned to do some basics, but it means that if you DO decide to stop playing - you have only spent $100 tops on a guitar rather than $250 ++, which you won't make back.

not that i have any credibility on this topic, but if had a 50$ guitar and 1000$ guitar, id trade the 1000$ guitar for the 50$ guitar + some skills lol :/

idk how the rest of you feel but coming from someone who constantly gets stuck and frustrated and stinks up the joint, I would just buy the crappy guitar, buying a great guitar wont make a difference if u cant play the notes clearly and quickly enough :/

I have a yamaha FD01 acoustic (i think theyre like 100-200$ depending on where u buy them) and a fender starcaster electric and a tiny amp (i dont know how much they are, but i assume not super expensive).

i would buy an acoustic though, most songs u start to learn will sound better on acoustic, its good for your hands to learn on acoustic, and you dont have to worry about pedals and amps and other confusing shit, so you can just focus on playing the correct stuff. Spend the 100$ get a cheap one, and play for at least 6 months before you think about getting a new one, it might turn out that you like fingerstyle classic stuff and your good at it, and you bought some electric for 700$ and spent 200$ on an amp and then u wud be pissed

idk, i have cheap guitars, and when i play songs correctly they sound good to me, ofc i dont have anything to compare it to. My point is just that even if i went and spent 1000$ on a guitar i would still suck :P better to buy a cheap one cuz like bob said ppl do quit, or at the very least their interests change and it is very possible it could take years to get good, so theres no reason to have a 900$ guitar while ur playing yankee doddle
