the guy that plays guitar for me is fantastic. he is however just getting into electric from acoustic and doesn't know a lot about it. i don't either, so...

i need help creating an effect. i've seen something similar done before by tom morello. i think thats his name. guitarist for audioslave. anyway, basically what he did was pull the chord out of the guitar and touch it to the string. i was wondering if this could be done and made to sound almost like a turn table. kinda like the turn table sound in the song sabotage.

any suggestions? sorry if that didn't make a lot of sense.

tom morello used one of those whammy pedals to get a lot of his sounds

if you use a whammy pedal fast enough, it sounds like scratching

I should add that I'm pretty sure Tom Morello uses like... a zip-tie or something weird like that to actually scratch his strings. Maybe experiment with scraping your strings with random materials.

Can you provide a sample of the sound that you are trying to make? Morello is an effects junkie, he does a lot of cool things with them but it is often tough to replicate and control without spending a lot of time on effects alone.

Based on the description, you might be thinking of an E-Bow, a cool little handheld thing.

The answer to your problem is you guys need a Boss ME-50 it is easy and has tons of ability like that.

me-50s are cool but some of the effects the professionals come up with are a really complex mix that pretty impossible to get without an identical setup
