playing 'drums' on your kitchen table with pencils does not make you a good drummer

if you were good at drumming, you would know what some good brands are

That's pretty harsh. He didn't provide much detail, but I'll try to help him.

Number one, How much money do you have to spend?
Number two, Do you have a place to play them loud? Or do you need an electronic kit? If so, I don't know much about them so you're on your own.

Give me an answer to those, and I'll help you from there.

This one looks nice if you DO have hardware and cymbals: http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend.com/product/Dixon-Demon-5Piece-Shell-Pack?sku=360829

This one looks ok if you DON'T have hardware and cymbals: http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend.com/product/ddrum-D2-5Piece-Drum-Set?sku=483969

You need to ask yourself what you want in a kit and where you want to put more money into. Always check to see if there's hardware or cymbals included.

buy them used, theres lots of people who take up drums and then give it up. Its difficult to learn, difficult to make it fun if you dont have friends who play other instruments or arnt tech savy enough to play while you listen to some sort of backing track, and its something people who have alot of money will try to make a hobby out of and then never follow through.

with alot of instruments this isnt the case, and maybe its not as good an idea to buy used - but with drums, therye designed to be beaten on, and take abuse. this is probably the #1 instrument type that you can get good used and at a good discount rate.

I know 2 people myself who have drumsets, and paid 800$+ retail for the whole setups(both pearl), and havnt played them in years, so they sit in storage, or behind a couch in an unused room. Theres probably alot of people on craigs list who are DYING to get rid of their sets, because they dont play them, and they take up an ungodly amount of room, and its like a constant embarrassment not being able to play them and having people in your house who ask you if you can play them.

I totally agree with blunderwonder2. Go for a used one. Good brands are Sonor, Pearl and Tama. If you didn´t already do it, you should try carbon-sticks. They usually last longer than the normal ones especially if you like the rough stuff e.g. Metal. What you shouldn´t be scared about spending a bit more are your bass-drum-peddals and Cymbals. Good Cymbal brands are Zildjian, Meinl and Istanbul. Concerning the before mentioned peddals, you should first decide wether or not you net a double-pedal for playing fast bass-drum parts or if you wish to go for a single pedal. Maybe you´ll have to spend more than 500$ but it´s worth it to go for high-quality stuff for a drum set is more like a high-precision-tool than a toy.l
Have fun playing.
