I've been playing acoustic for a couple of months now and I know my open and bar chords pretty well. Now I'm getting into music theory and my friend said it was important to learn the notes on the fret, and I can see where he's coming from. Problem is, when I need to jump to a certain note, I need to count from the first fret down to find it. Any suggestions on how to go about learning those frets?

I learned the first 2 strings of my bass by just running through the circle of fifths

aka, B,E,A,D,G,C,F,Bb,Eb,Ab,Db,Gb

do that like 100 times per string or so

speed it up as you go, etc

do 1 string at a time, imo.

Just start off slow and make sure you are consistent, if you try to speed up but forget where a note is....you should slow down

it also helps to think about various chord inversions

you can play one chord all the way up the neck if you wanted to

Hmm, good idea. I've been learning the circle of fifths to, but starting with C and its relative minor (A). I've only learned C-A and G-E though, and it's been verrrrry slow D:
