Anyone have any suggestions for a metal style starter kit? I just want it to sound half decent. not looking to go pro here. LMK

Pretty much any poplar shell (maple sounding synthetic) 5 piece+ will do you fine to get started.

I started with a Tama 5-piece Swingstar myself. Worked fine.

EDIT:

The shell sizes is what you need to be considerate of.

22 inch bass
10/12/18 inch rack/rack/floor toms
14 inch snare

That setup will provide most of the 'standard' size metal shell sizes.

Wrong. Most "standard" kits come with 22 kick, 14 snare, 12 and 13 rack toms and a 16 floor tom. A "fusion" style will come with 22 kick, 14 snare, 10, 12 toms, 14 floor tom.
