Hey everyone - I'm in the market for a 12 string guitar, and I'm hoping that someone can explain the pros and cons vs. acoustic v. acoustic-electric on this instrument to me? Thanks

Acoustic-electric has electronics, acoustic does not.
Acoustic-electric can be plugged to an amp / mixer / PA / what ever, acoustic can not be.

Acoustic might have a cheesier sound, when mic'd with a decent mic outside the body.

12 string acoustic sounds MUCH better and fuller than a 6 string electric or acoustic.

Thats a definate pro.

A definate con, is another 6 strings to keep on top of.

I'd like to add here, that 12-stringer definetely has fuller and warmer sound than a 6-string, but its way harder to attempt to play lead-lines with 12-strings.
But thats just my personal experience. Im not saying playing leads is not possible with 12-strings. ^^

Zakk Wylde showed me the impossible on a 6 string acoustic, while Stevie Ray Vaughan showed me the impossible on a 12 string.

breedlove rocks. if you are buying a 12 string i suggest buying acoustic, then adding pickup (if you must) or just mic it. the onboard electronics in guitars is crap unless your talking about taylor or a really nice guitar.
