I've been on the lookout for a new amp for a while now, since i don't really have one atm (i run through my stereo, which is a bit of a pain)

I probably won't be doing any gigging with it, so that's hardly a major consideration. hell i could always mic it up if the need arose lolol.

but for a decent amp with decent sound with decent volume for jamming with mates for a decent price, is this good? it's $250 (new zealand).

i'm a little tight on money - i don't want to buy an amp and then need to spend a few hundred more on an effects box, hence why line 6 has looked like a good option.

anyone have opinions on these amps?

DUDE! EPIPHONE VALVE JUNIOR! ITS FUCKING SWEET! I just bought one.

That said, I had a 100 watt spider a couple years ago, not a bad amp at all man. Epiphone valve junior costs 125$ as well :)

BUT since you need effects, I also bought a delta labs multi effects pedal. It works pretty damn good and it costs 99. So for less then you'd spend on the line6, you can get a better sound and more volume. :)

Avoid any Line 6 hardware if you can, it sounds awful. The controls on the digital Spiders are difficult to work with - too many effects and digital presets built in, you need to work with those rather than just turning the dials. While they may have modeled tones after tons of high-quality and famous amps, they certainly don't sound like them. Once you learn how to work with one, you can get a decent tone out of it, but never a great one, it always sounds like a chain of cheap effects pedals. I used to jam with a guy who had one as a backup and worked with it many times to avoid lugging a Peavey 2x12 combo around.

Depending on the style of music that you play, you can find much better amps in the same price range. Roland Cube practice amps are readily available and easily the best cheap and small amp of their type that I have used. There are quite a few Peavey combo amps (especially the Transtube ones) that are usually around that price and sound great for metal and hard rock.

Marshall do great Combo amps. I have one that I used from 2000-2010 then got my halfstack. It had reverb, a really warm clean tone and a crunchy overdrive :D
