Is it normal for my finger to be constantly sliced by the e string on the guitar?

E: Anyone know a fast way to form calluses on your fingers?

If you're new to the guitar your fingers may hurt until you build callouses and get used to playing.

One thing you can try is to put lighter strings on the guitar so that it's not so hard on your fingers.

If you notice that it hurts too much to play then just put the guitar down for a day or two. Eventually you will develop callouses and it won't hurt.

If you don't want your fingers sliced, put on very light guitar strings.

If you want to build up callouses, put on very heavy guitar strings.

You cannot have it both ways at this point. o.O
