In your opinions for recording guitar, what necessary equipment do you guys think is crucial to recording guitar tracks - sounding professional.

I need an idea as I'm brainstorming for a home recording studio. I'll need info and advice on amps, guitars, mics and recording software. If you're satisfied with your gear; name what you got

I'll also need some advice for recording cleans and distortion.

Here's my list:

Mic's
Shure SM 57
Royer R122v

Mic Pre:
Vintech X71

Apoggee Converter (1st choice) or Motu or equivalent

Software:
Anything processing 24bit. Reaper, Nuendo, Protools.

Guitars: (Too many to choose from but if you have to have one...)
Terry McInturff Empress

Amps:
Victoria 35210
Marshall DSL40 Combo

Get that stuff... you should get a half decent tone.

Actually, I should add that Ken Andrews used to get wicked tone from his guitars and I think he went Gibson SG or Paul - Boss GT6 - Nice amp - SM57

i cant stand marshall tone for rock guitar, sounds too hazy. i prefer fender whether talking about distortion or clean. my old fender deluxe had better distortion than any marshall or crate tube amp ive seen.

compression?
