Does anyone have experience with them? Changed my set up recently to 1 tom and 1 floor tom, and placing my ride between them (where a 2nd tom normally would be) so i can use it as ride and crash.
There are special cymbals for this purpose (crash/ride cymbals) but i dont know what to pick. Im on a budget, and my main needs are that shit's loud as fuck when used as crash, but can still function as a decent ride. Another requirement is that it has quite some durability because i tend to hit rather hard.
I reckon 18" is ideal, but thats all i know.

Also, if you have experience on playing with them, does it "work"? Since i changed my set up i used a 20" pure ride cymbal, and it sort of worked when used as crash but it doesnt quite deliver the attack that i want, but i guess thats because its not supposed to be used as crash

You won't get "great" or really even "good" performance out of a crash/ride... just use a seperate crash and a seperate ride, to get the attack you want you are going to want something with a smaller thickness, and when you do that you will get a ride that has waaaaayy to long of a decay and will overpower everything man, or you will end up having a crash that sounds like a freaking gong lol..

A good affordable crash is the Zildjian zxt fast crash, like right at a hundred and sounds actually very good, and just keep using the ride you have.

Agreed. A crash/ride is the worst of both worlds. Luckily my friend offered to trade me his extra crash for my crash/ride, as that was the only cymbal I had.

In my style of music this could work out for me actually. I guess I should try out some in a store or something.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Take a look to Meinl Classic cymbals if you are going to buy cheap and lasting cymbals with pretty good sound ;)
