just got my 8 string about a month ago and the strings on it are startin to sound dead so i need some more
problem is they dont sell 8 string packs yet cause 8 string just came out not to long ago so i was wondering what gauges i should get for this bad boy

was thinking this
010, .013, .016, .022, .030, .045, .060, .080
the tunning i use it from high to low
e
b
g
d
a
E
B
E
i need the .080 cause i drop the F# to a lower E
ordering the strings from juststrings and wondering if the .022 would be wounded or not

is this a aright set up or should i make a change?

i would tune your low B down to A but that has nothing to do with the gauges. take it to a music shop, explain the situation, buy a new 6-pack then buy some singles and test it out. i think your gauges listed would work fine. .080 is a big ass string btw... twice as thick as your "middle E". GL!

well the the other lowest string they have is a 74 which i have on it currently when i tune it down to E is flabby so i just have to get it.
all the shops around where i live where shitting bricks cause they never seen a 8 string so they didnt have anything for the lower strings lol.
i do tune the B to A sometimes to play some songs i know in A.

your music store clerk is stuck in guitar mode. a bass A string should be in that range. here is a helpful comparison, scroll down for the guide:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strings_(music)

if they wont sell you a single, tell them you will try another store and gtfo. btw if my logic is correct, you want the string to have the same tension as your other strings. moving the scale an octave down at same tension and same string length, you want double the diameter of your low e. again the music store guy might not take into acct the difference in string length (bass neck is long). so if you are using a .045 for the low E id go .09 for the "lowest" E and like .105 for the uber low B (again id say screw B and tune to A or C, but i dont play an 8 sting guitar).

rly hope this helps.

wait. B would be .065, E would be .09. you probably dont need a .105 unless you are getting all satanic. is this an electric? have you checked the frequency ranges of your pickups?

edit #4: i might be wrong about the double diameter thing. i do know that double length at same tension is an octave. texted my friend who studies the stuff, she will set the record straight.
