So I know how to play guitar and piano very well, I first started on guitar and learned piano/keyboard because they're basically the exact same instrument.

I've recently been messing around with drumming, I can keep a beat and fill in when I need to but I have trouble keeping the same beat while doing the fill.

Is this simply something that I'll learn to do with enough practice or is there a certain technique involved?

I never really drummed, but I'm assuming it's only practice.

Just like you had to practice synchronizing your left and right hand while playing guitar, this is pretty much the same.

Haha didn't even think about that :D

It's just hard keeping a different meter while playing the same instrument. Like I have to hit an eight note and 16th note while keeping my fourth note going the whole time.

Try playing to the metronome. The trick is to play to or with the metronome. Don't look at it like it's a referee or an absolute. Play to it like it's another instrument. Listen to it and play your fills with it. Hopefully your musical apt will kick in and guide you to the beat again.

There is technique involved to every instrument. And it usually comes with practice yes (:

I find a very good way to practice without even having a drumset infront of you is just practice tapping your feet and double foot peddling, worked for my timing and rythme haha, just practice man thats all you need to do!

Good Luck and have fun!

Practice practice practice.

For now, I'd add a kick in the first beat of each measure (depending on the time signature).

feel the flow, practice basic 4/4 and 6/8 and try basics fills, no difficultiez, try to relax and loose up instead of being stiff and hyperconcentrated

and always practice in a rly slow tempo
