I came across a Max/MSP video the other day, and it honestly sounded like utter shit, but nearly all the comments were like "WOW OFMG LET ME HAB SEX WITH YOU, YOU'RE FUCKING AMAZING, A REAL ARTIST, SOUNDS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC" so it sparked my interest in what the fuck is Max/MSP.

Well I read up into it and I kind of get it, but I still really don't get it. I don't see what this program offers that is unique or beneficial for that matter. I even downloaded a 30 day trial for it just to try it out, but I'm completely lost here. The fucking thing costs 699.99..

So anyone want to explain to me what the hell this program is supposed to be? And if you want to be REALLY nice, you can help me learn a few basics with it, just so I can try it myself and then put it all to rest when I see what it is capable of. Yes, I am aware there are trillions and billions of tutorials out there, but I'm having some issues even then.

Yeah as if I didn't use Google/Wiki in the first place. I clearly still don't see the point of the program or else I wouldn't have posted.

I guess thats your problem then. Everything you need to know about the basic idea is written to the wikipedia article. Searching more info from Youtube gives you clue about the visual aspect.
I hadn't heard about this Max-programming before, took me 2 minutes to figure out whats it all about.

Then why don't you explain it to me then. I have read the page on Wikipedia obviously and I obviously looked at Youtube video and I still do not see the point of this program that makes users use it over other sound/music manipulating software.

It's a programming language to create certain types of music software and media.

Edit #3: seems like you would use it for dubstep etc for custom synth sounds.
