"Reaper" would be the best free recording program.

but just go for torrents, theres a great working version of cubase 4 studio if your working in a 32bit environment. The only sequencer/recording program around in torrents for a 64 bit environment is Sonar 6, which is what I used to use untill I recently bought Sonar 8 producers edition.

Of course, if you like the software - buy it when you can afford it.

What's the system requirements for these programs? I'm looking into recording my band's first full length soon and all I have is the free version of Audacity. I have a 2ghz dual core prossessor and 4 gigs of ram, 200g hd. Enough?

2ghz might be a bit too low.

I'm running a 2.4ghz dual core with 2gb ram, and it runs pretty well but it has some lag sometimes (Cubase LE4)
