No offense, but based on what you said (and classifying jimmy page as a 10), you are not a 5 or 6, but maybe a 1 or 2. Don't get discouraged. I'm just putting things into perspective for you. It's not a good idea to compare yourself to the best guitarists in the world right when you are starting out (keep in mind I understand you are not a complete beginner to the guitar, but from what you've said you are pretty new to lead guitar). It is one thing to be inspired by a guitarist you like, and aspire to become a good guitarist like them, but I wouldn't say it's ever a good idea to compare your skill level to these famous guitarists (or any other guitarist). There are simply so many variables to what is considered. You may have an edge on rhythm guitar while Jimmy Page is sort of an all around rhythm and lead beast. Stylistic choices make it pretty much impossible to compared guitarists to each other. Other factors also contribute to what I would consider a good guitarist. I know some guys who are beasts on the guitar, and can play any tab you throw at them, but they have not written a single song in their life. I consider songwriting ability to be a very important criteria when I decide what is a good guitarist. So having said that, you can see how it's hard to compare guitarists accurately. My original analysis that you are a 1 or 2 is based on a narrow view of who you are. Basically I am basing that on your statement about playing stairway as well as a little bit of assumption (I've assumed that, if you are not able to play stairway 100% yet, that you probably have not spent that much time perfecting tone as well as other aspects of the song). There are many aspects of you, as a guitarist, that I cannot tell over the internet. So take rating of you as a 1 or 2 with a grain of sand.

Now I assume since you mentioned page, you are really into rock and blues? Well one scale that is very important for that is the minor pentatonic scale. Google that and it should pop right up. I'm tired right now so I'm going to sleep but I might list ya some good songs tomorrow >.< gl!

Well since you like Jimmy Page you should learn the minor pentatonic scale. He used it all the time.

Damn, I can't even play rhythm without mixing lead into it. How does that work?

You should only compare your own to..your own playing. For me, seeing how far I've come over a period time is a driving force, it makes me want to go further.

This leads into what I was trying to say, and it's great advice as well!

one of these days kids will learn, playing a hard-to-play song does not make you as good or close to being good as the original artist.

When you can COMPOSE music that is as good as theirs, then you may talk....
