I realllly want to learn how to do this, I cannot really find any good lessons, or exercises to build up the skill in this.

Any tips?
Really appreciated, thanks.

Not sure what other information I'd need to post, if you need any. Ask. :)

Those guys both gave you some decent resources, I have been playing for 15 years and it wasn't until the last 5 years that I had even learned or really tried to sweep, since I never played any music that involved it, I actually ended up going to like 3 lessons lol, I showed up and basically told the guy I already know how to play but I was just having a pain in the ass time time getting sweeping down... after about three 45 minute lessons I was good to go. It was a technique I should have learned a lot earlier

I never even thought of getting lessons  I've been teaching myself for 8 years so it didn't really occur to me. I guess I'll get some help with this one thing then. Thanks :)

I learned a lot from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92Uzh_Tyrgc

Always play with a metronome, practice very slowly at first, and don't rush it, it requires more practice than anything other technique you have learned.

sweep picking only works if you know what you are playing.

the technique itself is simple, it just takes practice.

but knowing the minor/major/extended chord shapes will make your sweeping 10000x better.

Just takes a lot of solid practice. Look up some beginner arpeggios or if you know your scales you can find some easy ones yourself... and start very VERY slow.

Learning four shapes goes a long way, but you can go even further with imagitation - Ron Jarzombek sweeps 12-tone rows, Jason Becker intersperses standard sweeps with inhuman three note u/d/d+d/d/u and he breaks up ultra-fast long patterns with finger picking. Some of these are good exercises, some only throw you off further - I recommend getting the right hand technique down with pauses for 2 notes on some strings before looking at making it more complex.
