Hey peeps! I need help pricing a guitar...

I have come into posession of a Fender Stratocaster 1973 issue. I have taken the guitar apart and found that absolutely every part of are original 1973 fender pieces, none of it has been replaced.

The finish is a natural I believe, and the serial number is 663798.

I need some sort of price check to know how much I can sell it for. There was an Original White version that sold on eebay for $5,600 and i'm aiming to get £1500 - £2200 for it.

I am being realistic, or should i realistically be looking at 500-1000 tops?

There is very little damage to it, but the noticeable bits are on the fretboard;the laquered finish on the fretboard is wearing away at the top of the frets. Also the finish at the top part of the body (above the strings) is wearing off in 3 or 4 places, but it's not incredibly noticeable on first glance.

Any help would be really appreciated as I know alot of you guitar freaks are into Fenders, and i know a select few of you are knowledgable on guitars much older than myself ^_^

Cheers
Bob

Do you have pictures? If so post as many as you have or even PM me, I am definately a fender guy. I am interested in seeing if you have the CBS headstock or pre CBSm what profile the neck is, along with the actual lettering on the logo.

If it's a 73 it's CBS.

Ok I have 5 pictures of this guitar.

The next 2 pictures are of the electronics:

Picture 1:
The fretboard has some fretwear along the top of the neck betwen frets 2-12 (understandable after 37 years no?)
Some of the laquer finish is rubbing off the top of the body (closest to your chin) but it's not that noticeable, and it certainly doesn't affect the guitar.
Picture 2:
The printed red word is "NATURAL"
Picture 3:
The number printed on the part is 1377337, i'm afraid I can't read the other numbers as the picture isn't great quality.
Picutre 4:
The serial number on the neckplate is 653798.
The middle right screw for the backplate is missing, but in honesty I can probably find a replacement.
Notice the beautiful finish
Picture 5:
This shows the body with the scratch plate removed so you can see the electronics. As you can see, nothing has been changed or replaced and this Fender is exactly the same as it was in 1973.

From the info given on this website : http://home.provide.net/~cfh/fender.html#serial : I find that the serial number co-insides with the 1975 model.

So what are we thinking price wise?

Is this really worth £1000 or could it be worth closer to £3000?

You should get about 1400-1900 £ for this original guitar.

Thanks. What's that based on by the way? Is it just the age and model?

You should send these photos to Gruhn Guitars in Nashville. I think it's $50 but it's pretty much an disputable appraisal. I'll check the Blue Book when I get to work.
