Looking for something I can crank really loud with decent gain but still be able to make chords sing and have a clear clean. Looking for a sound that would be good for a musically-inclined punk/metal band. (Need gain for the chuga chugas, need clarity for the fast chord progerssions)

Looking to spend less than a grand, so the higher end amps are probably not very likely, but I'd still like some insight if anyone has any.

Triple recto.

You can't find that under a grand. I'm looking for pros and cons of each amp.

You won't find a trip for under a grand. Anywhere

Plus you DO NOT need a trip. That is the most excessive thing ever. Even my dual is out of hand sometimes

get a dual rec and love life

Easy get a used Marshall JCM 900 50w model. Amazing amps

Or if you don't care about having two channels and can find a wicked analog distortion/overdrive pedal you like get the Marshall JCM 800 50w .

I always recommend 50w because its easier to push the amp and get that great tube tone without making your ears bleed or purchasing an expensive hot plate to do the same thing just owning a smaller amp would do. I have been playing in bands for years from small venues to large ones, and have never found a need for a 100w tube amp.

I've had the triple rec, jcm 2000 dsl 100, and the b-52.

The triple rec has massive gain and that's about all it really did for me, must be massively cranked to get there too.
The b-52 is kind've a mini poor man's dual rectifier, the cleans were GREAT, and the gain was more than sufficient

My alltime favorite is the jcm 2000 dsl100...that's what i'm playing right now. Everyone says the cleans arn't good ,but I think they are amazing if you know how to dial them in. The gain can really get up there, but it also sounds good if the gain isn't dimed.

the 5150 owns, it retiered my pedal board. so loud and so much push/power in every note, cranked a wall on vol lvl 7. bright and clear tone that crushes small children in heavyness. pro amp for the all styles, never need a eq for the amp. perfect for rockin the vai and satch with or rocken rythems. id probley save this amp first in a house fire before a family member.
