What sort of equipment would I need? I have a MIDI, but that's about it. I wanna be able to record tracks straight from my guitar onto my computer with no amp. I heard there's little pods/boxes that emulate amps so that I could do this. What products would you reccomend?

^ Do that if you want shitty sound quality. It will be super quiet without something to boost the volume, and if you boost it too much it might distort and sound shitty. I would check out the POD line up by Line 6. I heard they were pretty fancy.

I use Digitech RP250. sounds great. clean as it can get, considering my unique distortion settings :)

Kinda scared about buying anything Line 6, I've heard the distortion on the pods is really, really bad, and distortion tone is important to me.

im actually selling one of these

if you want it
im just not using it anymore

but i recommend buying something from M-Audio or from Presonus

i have a Presonus Firstudio Project and it is really fantastic
it even came with cubase to edit and add effects and such to any intrument you record
ive made 3 songs with this device and i REALLY love it

i tried the M-Audio Fast Track Pro
but there were no drivers for Windows XP 64 bit so i sold it and bought this one
and it is just awesome, so easy to use

But go M-Audio or Presonus
great products

I have a Line 6 pod and it is decent for recording. I think the distortion sounds pretty good with the right tweaking, but yeah, there are some really bad settings. However, you can really get ANY sound you want with the pod though, and for only around $100, it's not a bad deal. The pod came with the Line 6 pod software, a recording program called Live 7.0, and a sequencer program that you can use to make drum beats and other stuff.
