Genre: Progressive metal.
Meaning: It's about drug addiction and the effect that it has on this person.
Took me less than 10 minutes to write these.

Trickling down the needle
Desire overwhelms my mind
Pretending to hold my sanity
I can’t begin to comprehend

The silence that I needed
The comfort that broke me in
Grounded in my whole self
No such thing as struggling.
Push me through the threshold
Bow down to holes in my skin

Smile, take the picture
I won’t come this way again
Got to feed my demons
That strike me from within

Tied down to the air
Misguided I can’t help but stare
Take me to the freak show
It’s where I have my only friend

The silence that I needed
The comfort that broke me in
Grounded in my whole self
No such thing as struggling.
Push me through the threshold
Bow down to holes in my skin

My thoughts sit divided
But I still find my way back home
Take me to a new place
Somewhere that I’ve never been

Where there’s silence that I need
Comfort that breaks me
I’ll stay grounded in my whole self
I’ll keep struggling.
Step back from the threshold
Bow down to holes in my skin

incredible vocabulary use for a 10 minute song, and lyrics would fit well with the style you suggested. well done. :)

I hear this song sounding a lot like Tool or A perfect circle.

But yeah I agree.
I hate how lyrics about heartache or death are so popular when they all mean nothing and have the same story behind it.
I search for something unique when I write.

Hmm, they're good I'd say, it rhymes and it has a feeling of going well (the flow) as the song progress,

Do they mean nothing? Simply because the majority of songs are about that, does not mean they are meaningless. Some people are just better at writing those type of songs, and I really am not going to criticize someone if they make an amazing song, just because there have been so many like that. I love songs w/ unique messages/lyrics, but in the end, melody plays the biggest role. The bottom line (generally speaking) is:

great/unique lyrics + good melody = good song
bad lyrics + good melody = good song
great lyrics + bad melody = bad song
bad lyrics + bad melody = bad song

I do like your lyrics, I'd prefer to hear them in context though, being sung.
