I am interested in DW's "Super Solid" snare drum. If you haven't heard about it, here's a link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN_xzoky2ng

If you don't want to watch the link, here's a brief overview:

It's a 5.5 x 14 inch snare with a solid shell. It comes in three thicknesses, 3/8, 1/2, and 3/4. It also has natural reinforcing hoops cut in the solid shell from a specialized CNC machine.

Naturally, this thing is gunna be loud as hell. I'm leaning towards 3/8.

My question is...what the hell, is 3/4 really necessary? If anyone has info about the sounds of the different sizes, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Of course. I'd imagine the thicker the shell, the higher pitch and lower resonance it will have. My inquiry is to what extent.

I didn't find the video to be informative enough.

Nearest Guitar Center is like an hour away and the locals don't have it.

I agree, that's why I'm looking for information. I'm not sure if I'm even going to buy it. I just wanted to know is a 3/4" solid shell quad vented snare drum (with reinforcing hoops) necessary compared to the 1/2" or even 3/8"
