I already have a slew of acoustic guitars , Martin DX1, Taylor 414CE, 1976 Alvarez Yairi DY 85, Martin 000CXE. as you can see a nice range of guitars. I went over to Music 6000 (a guitar shop in olympia,wa) and was just messing around, was actually going in to buy strings, but of course I always look around at the guitars, especially acoustics. I ended up playing a few and was blown away by the new Epiphone Masterbuilt 500M, the sound and feel out of it was amazing, while no way close to as ornate as my alvarez or taylor, the sound was definately comparable and it felt amazing, it has a solid sitka spruce top and solid mahogony back and sides (not HPL, like my Martin DX1) and it is only freaking 500 bucks.... so instead of buying strings I bought yet another acoustic lol. Don't know why I posted this here..... maybe if anyone is interested in buying a new acoustic, DEFINATELY look into the epiphone masterbuilt series.... they seriously rock. I will put up some pics soon.

i got a Yamaha FG-150 and an Alverez RD20-SC

and my electrics are Ibenez Talman Custom and Washburn X-50 Pro

id really like to check out some acoustics and just compare soem sounds
i like a nice hollow kinda ring to an acoustic
kinda like the unique build of some Ovations

but i like the sharp ring of the Alverez for other songs

but ive never played a Martin or a Taylor and ive heard very good things about them

Martins have a mellower tone with an overall even projection while most taylors have a much brighter "sparkling" tone and concentrate more in the mid and range.... both are great brands... but this epiphone is seriously awesome, dont buy any other model epiphones except the masterbuilt though, those are mainly trash, I had guitars that have the high pressure laminate sides and back and even worse when the have the hpl tops

you need to go play a blueridge br-160. its about $600-700 new and blows everything in its price range out of the water.

Brand names on acoustic guitars are like naming stars.

It makes them easier to point at and say, "that is called XXXXX" and nothing else. I've played 400-500 dollar 'offbrand' guitars that sound way better than some higher-end pricey name models.
