I was wondering if you guys had any tips for me. Any guides and etc. I plan on going from tabs to actual sheet music eventually. I write my own songs and now I'd like to learn to play them. Haha. Acoustic guitar.

Thanks,
Alex.

All I can say for now is build finger strength
Go 1-2-3-4 up all 6 strings and back down.
When you get good enough, alternate pick it and slowly build your way up.
This is going to take a long time but you'll have fun doing it.
Use a metronome and find easy songs you like.

do not forget to learn your theory...tabs are cool, but sheet music is be better in the long run. If you get good and professional, no one uses tabs, especially studio musicians..

but theory and technique needs to be equal.. playing fast is pointless if you dont know where you fingers are going!

most important thing for most people is to have fun with it, especially at first. dont get burnt out too soon. shooting to be the best guitarist will just be frustrating, playing your own music as a hobby is better than sex (maybe).

Start with sheet music and learn fundamentals. You can jump right into songs I guess, but it's better to learn what you're playing rather than to just learn where your fingers go.

I think you should just start with sheet music and theory, assuming you have long-term goals of eventually creating your own music. If you have no plans whatsoever of writing music and just want to learn to play some songs you like, then tabs would be the route to go. I'm not against tabs per say (sp?), but learning theory will be much more beneficial in the long run and will prepare you for writing your own music. It is my opinion that a guitarist should be learning theory from day one.

There is a decent site. You can go through the lessons and even use some trainers. There are ear trainers, key trainers, and note trainers as a few examples. Very useful.

If you don't have a metronome already, you can easily find one online. The metronome is the musicians best friend.

I read most of it, and went through it mostly. I know all the lessons besides a few. Did an entire workbook on my own back in 6-8th grade. I remember it all. I'll still use it for refreshing my memory.

Fake E:

Didn't see all the extra stuff. I'll read through it all and take the analysis's.

Alright. At least it refreshed your memory. How good are you at sight reading?
