Who's named their instruments?
I never really considered it until recently. A couple guitars I've had for over 10 years. Others have come and gone.

so you are not a sentimental person.

i named only one of my instruments, a mandolin, fiorella. its an italian girls name. italian because its an italian instrument. girls name because it is considered soprano voicing (same string length as violin)

If it's got no sentimental value then, yeah it would be a waste of time. I'm also not sure if many drummers name their kits. But a lot of famous guitarists name their instruments. Like you said, it comes down to sentimental value or connection or whatever. The names aren't always proper names, sometimes it's something like "the Beast," "Frankenstrat," "Number One," "Aligator."

I feel some sort of connection with a couple of my guitars and one of my basses. But others I don't.

An Ibanez acoustic I got, in 2002, from a guy who needed gas money in FL at a gas station for $20 I've name Jolene. Not sure why that name, but it seemed to fit.

My '70s Kay hollowbody I named Maxine after my Grandma.

Still have my purple strat, J bass and tele style that I built left to name.
