could be settings/pedals, could be basically anything. There are a lot of variables when it comes to guitar tone. It could even be the guitarist himself. A HUGE part of how you sound depends on your individual tone. How you strike the strings: light/hard. How smooth your play notes, what size pick do you use, what gauge strings do you use, what side of the pick do you hit the strings with, where is your picking hand positioned (moving your picking hand from left to right will change the tone), how hard you fret the strings, how close to the fret do you fret at, etc etc. The guitar affects the sound as well... the types of pickups, how close the pickups are to the strings, etc, etc. As you can see the list of variables is very long, but chances are your main problem is in the amp settings/pedals.
